A second boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor could take place after the UFC fighter claimed that he would be open to a rematch.

A Twitter user, Chris, tweeted praise on the 30-year-old Irishman's performance, claiming that the "fight was completely Conor's fight through 8.5 rounds."

"You had Conor going [Vasyl] Lomachenko on Floyd in round eight," Chris wrote.

"Conor put out Floyd's fire in round seven and dominated round eight. Conor even nearly finished Floyd to the body to start the 9th. Incredible.

"That fight was completely Conor's fight through 8.5 rounds

"Dang. So close. Rematch anyone?"

Interestingly, the user had not tagged McGregor in the tweet, but that didn't stop the Notorious from replying to it.

"I spoiled it with the rush right hook here," he said.

"The angle was made. He was in the dirt.

"I just had to set correctly into my feet and fire. Rushing the right hook I lost balance on my backhand.

"Great boxing fight! A rematch will be interesting no doubt."

McGregor and Mayweather's fight was held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, back in August 2017.

The undefeated 42-year-old American boxer emerged victorious, claiming a 10th-round TKO victory and notching up his 50th win in the process.

McGregor received a six-month suspension and was fined $50,000 (£38,095) from the Nevada State Athletic Commission after it handed down its verdict on the aftermath of UFC 229.

Mayweather, on the other hand, is planning to have more exhibition matches after his highly successful victory over Tenshin Nasukawa on New Year's Eve.

Will we see a rematch between Mayweather and McGregor in 2019 (or 2020)?
