Conor McGregor has accepted a challenge from Oscar de La Hoya after the six-weight boxing world champion said he could knock the Irishman out inside "two rounds".
The Golden Boy, who had a record of 39 wins and six defeats before retiring in 2008, made the statement during an appearance on CBS Sports' State of Combat podcast.
And mere days later McGregor has responded with a simple but effective tweet.

"I accept your challenge, Oscar de La Hoya," the Notorious one wrote.
The 47-year old paid tribute to what McGregor has done in UFC but believes the switch from Octagon to the squared circle is not a swift transition.
"Oh, come on, brother," De La Hoya said. as per Boxing Scene.

"Two rounds. Because one thing about me, one thing about me, I went for the kill always. And look, Conor McGregor is - I love him in The Octagon. I respect him. I watch him all the time. But the boxing ring is a whole different story. It's a whole different story."
De La Hoya provided 30 knockouts in his glittering career before becoming a promoter and even dabbling into the MMA world when he put together Tito Ortiz vs Chuck Liddell's trilogy bout - much to Dana White's frustration.
His prediction for how a fight with McGregor has remained the same over the last few years, as he believes he would be able to put him away quicker than Mayweather managed in their superfight in Las Vegas.
"You know I still have it in me. I've been secretly training," he said in 2017, when McGregor and Mayweather fought.

"Secretly training. I'm faster than ever, and stronger than ever. I know I could take out Conor McGregor in two rounds. I'll come back for that fight. Two rounds. Just one more. I'm calling him out. Two rounds. That's all I need. That's all I'm going to say."
