Boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez appears to have left the door open for a blockbuster fight with Jake Paul.

Paul improved his professional record to 4-0 after outpointing former UFC champion Tyron Woodley last weekend.

He survived a huge scare in the fourth round to earn the biggest win of his budding boxing career.

The 24-year-old has no shortage of intriguing opponents, with a host of stars in boxing and MMA calling him out.

Paul hasn't been quiet either, revealing a ten-man hitlist ahead of his clash with Woodley.

Canelo was included on the hitlist and the Mexican sensation did NOT say no when asked if he'd fight Paul in the future.

Asked if he'd give him a chance by TMZ, he replied: "Not right now."

Canelo added: "He's not ready."

TMZ continued to pepper him with questions about Paul, asking what needs to happen in order for you to give him a chance to which Canelo replied: "He needs to keep improving. Good luck."

Paul believes he will eventually face Canelo for a world title.

Speaking in June, he said: "I think I could be fighting Canelo Alvarez for the WBC or WBO championship belt.

"Really the sky is the limit and it's just about how serious I'm going to take it, and I do take it seriously, more seriously than 99.9 per cent of these 'professional boxers' that are out there.

"A lot of people are afraid to try, to get up out of their seats. They're afraid to do something different. But that's them, that's not me.

"I know that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to and that's why there's a difference between successful and unsuccessful people in this world."

Canelo has been active since returning to action in December 2020.

He beat the previously-undefeated Callum Smith to win the WBA, WBC and The Ring super-middleweight titles.

The 31-year-old made a swift return, defending his belts against Avni Yildirim before capturing the WBO strap in his victory over Billy Joe Saunders.

He's set to face IBF holder Caleb Plant next month.
