Dillian Whyte will become mandatory challenger for the WBC heavyweight world title if he beats Oscar Rivas on Saturday.

Whyte vs. Rivas will be for the WBC 'interim' belt and mandatory position to current champion Deontay Wilder.

The winner of Whyte vs. Rivas will face the winner of Wilder vs. Tyson Fury next year. Wilder and Fury are slated to rematch in February 2020.

There is a deadline of May 2020 set by the WBC by which Whyte must have fought for their title.

Promoter Eddie Hearn said: "I'm very happy that we have reached an agreement with the WBC and this makes Saturday night even more important.

"Dillian Whyte has faced all comers in reaching his WBC No.1 position and now he stands just one more test away from a shot at the WBC World title - it's all on the line this Saturday at The O2."

Wilder and Fury are set to renew hostilities next year when they meet in a rematch. But both fighters will have bouts in the interim.

The undefeated American will take on Luis Ortiz in November while the self-proclaimed 'Gypsy King' will return to action in October with Trevor Bryan and Jarrell Miller mooted as potential opponents.

As for Wilder vs. Fury 2, Whyte believes the Brit will come out victorious.

"People would make a case, saying Fury would win, because of what he did last time. But Wilder knows all he's got to do is get to him and hit him, so I don't know," he said.

"I think Fury gets dropped anyway, but he gets up, as he proved against Wilder. Who knows? Maybe if Wilder catches him clean, early enough, he might get up. But Wilder is garbage as well. I think Fury would beat him again anyway."
