Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev has sadly passed away following an injury in his fight on Friday night.

Dadashev was taken to hospital following his fight with Subriel Matias. The 28-year-old was fighting 'severe brain damage' after suffering a subdural haematoma, a bleed on the vein beneath the skull.

His condition reportedly 'deteriorated rapidly' when he arrived at the hospital.

The fighter, who had a perfect 13-0 record before Friday's loss, had emergency surgery to remove the right side of his skull in an attempt to reduce the brain swelling.

Videos of trainer Buddy McGirt asking Dadashev to allow him to end the fight and later discussing how he had to pull the fighter to not 'change a whole guy's life' were doing the rounds on social media.

Manager Egis Klimas had been hopeful that his client would improve to live a normal 'life,' telling press before the tragic death, "Within the next couple of days the swelling should decrease. Let's hope that the part of the skull will be put back in place.

"The doctor says that Max may come back to normal life.

"Right now, he's in critical condition, but the doctor told me that he's stable."

Tributes poured in from the world of boxing on social media:

Dadashev is survived by his wife and one son.

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
