Anthony Joshua has made a shocking claim that Andy Ruiz Jr only beat him after landing a "lucky punch."

The Brit superstar, 29, was dropped four times by Ruiz in their 1st June bout at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

But 'AJ' is adamant that the Mexican-American, 29, only handed him his first professional loss due to sheer luck.

"By a lucky punch. By a punch sent by the gods," he told Sky Sports.

"I don't know what concussion is, but for sure, after the fight I didn't know what round [the fight was stopped].

"So I'm just shocked it took Ruiz Jr another four rounds to get me out. Let me concuss, Ruiz Jr -- he won't get back up.

"Ruiz Jr got hit by a flash knockdown -- he was still raw, he wasn't well-done, he wasn't cooked yet. I should have left him a little bit longer.

"But the instinct in me was: 'Boom!' I ended up getting caught with a left hook on the top of the head. He ain't that skilful. He's a good fighter."

Joshua's behaviour in the limelight has been questioned after he called boxing legend Lennox Lewis a "clown."

Lewis, 53, had initially tweeted out criticism about the Brit's trainer, Rob McCracken, and suggested that 'AJ' should axe him ahead of his rematch with Ruiz.

Ruiz is set to defend his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles against Joshua on 7th December in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.

But the 'Destroyer' recently took to Instagram to claim that the fight would not take place in Saudi Arabia and is adamant that the rematch will be held in the US.

Joshua told William Hill that if Ruiz continues to "smack talk" he is "only digging his own grave because it's a different kind of ting now, do you know what I mean?"

Will 'AJ' win the rematch?
