Aaron Herrera Wins With One Of The Worst Stoppages Of All Time

There were no punches landed in the sequence that led to the stoppage win and it makes any other boxing controversy look smart.

Aaron Herrera defeated Raul Hinojosa in a welterweight boxing fight but the finish to the fight, in which Herrera seemingly failed to land a punch, is one of the most controversial endings to a fight in the history of the sport.

Boxing often doesn't help itself. Over the years there has been far too many controversial decisions in and out of the ring to leave fans of the sport, both hardcore and casuals, feeling absolutely deflated over results.

Tyson Fury's draw with Deontay Wilder was one recent example that left boxing fans, especially those in the UK, feeling very empty after Fury dominated from bell to bell even with the two knockdowns.

In UFC there was a cracking example of a controversial stoppage just over a week ago when Ben Askren seemed to choke out Robbie Lawler at UFC 235 only for the former welterweight champion to get straight back up and deny he was out.

However the controversial win for Askren now looks fine compared to one decision to end a fight in the boxing welterweight division.

Aaron Herrera managed to get the ref to stop his fight with Raul Hinojosa without landing a punch in a long barrage of missed shots, handing him a ridiculous TKO win:

Next time you see a fight end with any sort of controversy, whether it's the referee or the judges scorecards, just remember that it could be a hell of a lot worse.

What's the worst boxing or UFC decision you've seen?
