Moments after Tony Bellew defeated David Haye at the 02 Arena on Wednesday night, he admitted that he urged that veteran fighter to hang up his gloves.

Bellew knocked down Haye three times before the referee called a halt to the proceedings and award the victory to the Liverpudlian. It was another massive upset caused by Bellew's brilliant work.

It was another surprise win for Bellew. Many doubted he could pull off another victory, having beaten Haye in the pair's last encounter when the London-born fight had a damaged his Achilles.

Haye has had an immense impact on the sport, but he admitted that he so much as didn't smash Bellew in the eagerly anticipated rematch, he would retire from the sport.

And after the defeat, Bellew told reporters via the Metro that he told Haye to retire. He said: 'The first thing I said to Haye after the fight was "Stop now!" 'He's outstayed his welcome in the game really.

"You've got all these young guns coming up now, he needs to retire."

Some harsh words, there. And ones which Haye will unlikely take too lightly.

Haye himself hasn't admitted that he will retire. He made when pressed about making the decision, saying that he needs time to reflect on the loss.

'I'll have to review the tapes, I was bettered tonight,' Haye said. 'I'm not injured, I'm fully healthy.'
