Canelo Alvarez put on a boxing masterclass to defeat Callum Smith last night - with his 'fake jab' uppercut wowing fans around the world.

The Mexican superstar marched to unanimous victory on Saturday night after dominating Smith across 12 rounds.

One key moment came when Canelo backed Smith into the ropes and set the perfect trap.

He went to hit Smith with a right handed jab, but quickly transitioned to an uppercut with his left to rock the Brit.

You have to be supremely talented to have the awareness for that.

Canelo claimed the WBA world super-middleweight title in a comfortable victory, scored 119-109, 119-109 and 117-111 in his favour.

Fans have reacted to the skill on show and they think it's proof the 30-year-old is boxing's undisputed pound-for-pound king.

Canelo spoke to DAZN after the contest and dubbed himself the best fighter in the world.

"Smith is a great fighter, but as you see, I did a great job," he begun. I'm the best in the world. I showed what I am. I feel great at 168 (pounds).

"I don't want to fight with the scale. I want to unify. I want all the belts. It doesn't matter who is there."

When asked about what is next, Canelo said he would take a trilogy fight against Kazakhstani fighter Gennady Golovkin.

"I don't run from nobody," Alvarez said. "I fight against the best. If (Golovkin) wants to fight, I'll take it. I fight against the best. I feel more mature. I feel better."
