Boxing fans have reacted to the announcement of the Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul undercard announcement, labelling it "embarrassing" and "utter c**p".

The exhibition contest between the retired pound-for-pound boxer with the 50-0 professional record and the YouTuber with the 0-1 pro record takes place on 6 June in Miami.

However fight fans hoping for an all-star undercard to the fight which is likely to be sold for $50 (or more) on pay-per-view in the USA have been left sorely disappointed.

The three undercard fights announced include a rematch between Jean Pascal and Badou Jack, Jarrett Hurd fighting Luis Arias (winless in his last three fights) and former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson in an exhibition fight.

Pascal beat Jack in a good scrap that could have gone either way in 2019, but the fighters are age 38 and 37 respectively and both past their primes. Hurd will be a favourite over Arias in a solid fight, while Johnson is not a boxer.

The lack of star power on the undercard - plus the bizarre main event starring a 43-year-old ex-boxer against a far larger, 26-year-old YouTuber - has provoked a negative reaction online.

"Sad for the sport of boxing," said one fight fan. "State of the sweet science," complained another.

However it isn't all bad news, as some pointed out that the Pascal's split decision win over Jack was a good fight the first time around, while Hurd is a top-class boxer moving up to 160lb.

Mayweather cards usually have quite low-key undercards, as the vast amount of the bill's budget needs to go to the man nickmaed 'Money' at the top of the card. So this is really no surprise.

Frankly, Mayweather vs Paul is clearly relying on the novelty bout at the top to drive PPV sales. We will have to see how that pays out.
