Eddie Hearn’s Hilarious Reaction To ‘Dreadful’ Floyd Mayweather Vs Logan Paul Fight Being On PPV

"You can’t blame me for that one..."

Eddie Hearn has reacted to the announcement that Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul will be shown live on Sky Sports pay-per-view, labelling it "dreadful".

The Matchroom boss had an agreement to show boxing cards with the UK broadcaster but that comes to an end next month. Hearn has reportedly agreed a deal with DAZN in the UK (albeit the likes of Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte may yet stay on Sky PPV).

However Hearn joked, "You can't blame me for that one!" when asked about the announcement that the eight-round Mayweather vs Paul exhibition will be shown on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK.

The contest, on 6 June in Miami, pits retired boxing great Mayweather, who boasts a 50-0 record, against Logan Paul, whose official record reads 0-1 after his defeat to fellow YouTuber KSI.

Hearn has been critical of the contest and did not change his tune, despite the announcement that the exhibition will be shown on the PPV platform of the broadcaster that he's had a long and successful relationship with.

Asked about the contest being on Sky Sports Box Office, Hearn grinned and told IFL TV: "You can't blame me for that one! Dreadful.

"Listen, people are gonna watch it, aren't they?

"Look, I did Logan Paul vs KSI... but it was a fight between two YouTubers who couldn't really fight. Now you've got a bloke who can't fight against one of the greatest fighters of all time.

"I can't go back on my word of what I've already said about the fight because it's now on pay-per-view.

"I wasn't involved with it, it's got nothing to do with me, enjoy the show."

Hearn has come under criticism in the past for certain fights that have headlined PPV cards, such as the Joseph Parker vs Derek Chisora heavyweight contest at the start of May. But his message to British boxing fans is clearly that this particular decision is not his doing.

The Mayweather-Paul event is being shown on Showtime pay-per-view in the USA and comes with a $50 (around £35) price tag. There is no news yet on Sky's price for the UK market, though recent boxing PPVs have been priced at £20.

The 44-year-old former pound-for-pound king Mayweather and the 26-year-old Paul went head-to-head at a media event earlier this month to promote their bout.

However the show was somewhat stolen by Logan's younger brother, Jake Paul, who snatched Mayweather's hat which prompted a wild brawl and left Jake - who boasts a 3-0 ring record but is yet to face an actual boxer - with a black eye and bloodied mouth.

It remains to be seen whether UK fight fans will treat Mayweather vs Logan Paul as a black eye for boxing or whether the pull of seeing Floyd lace them up and swap punches with 'The Maverick' proves too strong.
