Jake Paul made a lot more money than many expected, or was reported in some places, with his knockout of Nate Johnson last week.

The YouTube star claimed to ESPN that he netted "A lot. Eight figures". This came after the Californian State Athletic Commission had said that Paul and his opponent had only earned $600 from the clash.

However, Paul laughed at this, explaining that his paycheck was linked to how well the bout did on PPV. It seems that it did rather well.

"My deal was built into the backend structure of how well the event performed," he told reporter Marc Raimondi. "The event performed incredibly well."

For some context, Tyson Fury earned £7 million from his first fight with Deontay Wilder, according to TalkSport - supposedly less than the YouTuber did last weekend.

Paul has now set his sights on Conor McGregor, claiming that he is "dedicating" his life to defeating the Irishman.

"I am dedicating my life to beating Conor McGregor," the 23-year-old told ESPN. "Financially, it already makes sense. Financially, I'm already one of the biggest prizefighters and there's only a couple more bosses to check off and to beat and to conquer."

He added that he would retire if he managed to defeat the MMA fighter.

Paul defeated Johnson by KO in the second round, but may have some way to go before he faces a professional fighter - albeit likely not in McGregor's preferred format. Many fans pointed out that he may be aiming too high.

Despite the doubters, Paul seems pretty confident - comparing himself to former heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder.

"When I got the opportunity to get back in involved with sports, I fell in love with it. Now I can take this as far as I want. Deontay Wilder started boxing at the age of 21 and became the heavyweight champion of the world. I started boxing at the age of 20. So, why can't I be the champion of the world?

"I already have the platform."So for me, I truly believe that I will become the biggest prizefighter in the world and the highest-paid prizefighter in the world. And that is my goal -- and I won't stop for anybody."
