Ring Announcer Michael Buffer Got Ben Askren’s Name Wrong Before Jake Paul Fight

Adding insult before injury, ring announcer Michael Buffer somehow managed to get Ben Askren's name wrong before his first-round knockout at the fists of Jake Paul.

The famous boxing MC was doing his usual smooth hype job as he made the in-ring introductions of the ex-MMA fighter and the YouTuber in Atlanta. However when he came to Ben Askren's surname - hardly the most difficult to pronounce - he absolutely mangled it.

Askren definitely noticed, as he shot Buffer a baffled 'WTF?' look while he paced the ring pre-fight.

"The mixed martial artist has a record of 19 victories with only two defeats," intoned Buffer. "From Hartland, Wisconsin, USA: 'Funky' BEEEEN ASSCUUUUUE!"

Whatever Buffer was going for on the Triller/Fite TV pay-per-view, it definitely sounded nothing like 'Askren' - and the 36-year-old ex-UFC fighter stopped his pre-fight posturing to turn and seemingly say something to the MC.

It all soon got even worse for Askren/Asscue, as he lasted less than two minutes into his first pro boxing fight before 'The Problem Child' laid him out with a brutal right-hand bomb to the chin.

Buffer, 76, is one of the most famous ring announcers having called Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and a host of other legends to the ring with his famous cry of "Let's get ready to rumble!"

He certainly never got any of their names wrong, as we recall.

Buffer isn't the first member of his family to call Askren to the ring, either. Bruce Buffer - Michael's younger half-brother - is known as the voice of the UFC and handles all the major in-Octagon announcement duties.

Perhaps he should have tipped off his big bro on how to pronounce Askren's name.

Although, after Askren became Jake Paul's third knockout victim in three pro bouts, his brief pre-fight embarrassment was probably the last thing on 'Funky's mind.
