Andy Ruiz Jr accidentally punched his trainer with a stiff left hook, but the coach ate the punch better than some professional boxers.

The Mexican-American heavyweight champion is in full flow ahead of his anticipated rematch with Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia.

He's in camp after completing his media obligations and it appears his timing isn't quite up to scratch, after a video emerged online of him catching his coach with a stray punch.

Ruiz Jr missed the pad and punched his coach flush on the chin. "Oh shit!" he said before embracing him.

Ruiz Jr, meanwhile, has begun a new, stringent diet ahead of his rematch on December 7.

He weighed in at over 19 stone when he shocked the heavyweight division and the 30-year-old is planning to shed some weight in the lead up to their second meeting.

"He will be heavy but that's nothing we haven't dealt with in the past. He likes tacos. We don't worry about his diet outside of camp," his nutritionist Zo's Meal Plans revealed.

"Remember, this is a heavyweight camp. Andy isn't a lightweight.

"We try to make it healthier. A lot of fruits and vegetables but he has the occasional treat. For the most part, he is serious about his diet.

"We try to give him the correct fuel to get through his training sessions. We introduce veggies and fish.

"During camp we will cheat. In the last camp we would go to the movies at the weekend and he would have popcorn," the nutritionist admitted.

"But the tacos are our getaway on Friday night, our cheat meal.

"We have to keep him happy. When he is hungry he gets grouchy. So I keep him fed.

"He works out very hard and his training days are rough so I keep him fuelled and happy."
