Amir Khan has refused to rule out fighting Floyd Mayweather after the American announced he's planning his in-ring return.

Mayweather hasn't had a professional match since defeating Conor McGregor in an exhibition in August 2017.

But Khan has said he still wants to face the 42-year-old in the twilight of his career after never getting 'Money' in his prime.

He told Sky Sports per The Sun,

"I'm looking at the 147lb division, welterweight I should make quite easy, it's not hard. I hope to be back in ring March-April time.

"There are some big names being talked about, Mayweather may return to Manny Pacquiao."

Khan tirelessly worked to try and get a match with Mayweather for years.

The 32-year-old even turned down a world title fight against Devon Alexander to force through the bout.

But Mayweather never asked for a fight despite knowing how big it would be.

Furthermore, the undefeated fighter once ran a poll to give fans a chance to voice who they'd like him to face.

The Bolton fighter defeated Marcos Maidana in the poll quite comfortably but Mayweather went on to fight Maidana instead.

Khan has continued to probe for a fight and took to criticising Mayweather's exhibition bout against Tenshin Nasukawa last year.

"If you look at boxing and MMA - why is MMA and UFC surpassing boxing? Because they're putting the better fights on," he said ahead of the fight.

"They're putting the fights on that people want to see and these are just joke fights what Floyd Mayweather is doing."

Mayweather fired back in typical fashion.

"Do what Floyd Mayweather did, accomplish what Floyd Mayweather accomplished, do record breaking things like Floyd Mayweather, and then you can say what you wanna say.

"At the end of the day, nobody has done what I've done in the sport of boxing.

"These guys are getting $2million/$3million for twelve rounds. I'm making more than that just for sparring.

"Amir Khan, he faced Canelo. When he faced Canelo we seen him comatosed.

"I was an old man when I faced Canelo and we all know that was easy work, probably some of the easiest work I ever had."

There's certainly history there should they finally face off next year.
