Boxer Adrien Broner has claimed he did not know rapper Bhad Bhabie was 16 years old when he slid into her Instagram DMs.

The 30-year-old sent a message to the viral sensation before she called him out for doing so.

She responded by posting a screenshot of the message, which read 'Text me crazy girl', alongside the song 'Locked Up' by Akon.

Broner has insisted the message was a mistake and claims that the blame should instead be on Instagram themselves.

"Nobody want to date a kid but I fault Instagram for not having people's age on they profile," Broner told The Shade Room.

"I thought she was grown the way she out here moving."

Fans of the rapper were quick to attack the boxer on social media with comments saying he should go to prison, even tagging organisations such as the FBI and Atlanta Police Department.

Under his most recent post, the comments read: 'So long have you been doing this for and how many kids have you been texting MR BRONER' as well as 'Messaging 16 year old's now champ? Damn I didn't think Maidana hit you that hard'

When asked about his relationship with his partner Arie Nicole, who is also the mother of his children, the boxer described it as 'complicated' but said he still plans on marrying her someday as she's the 'love of his life'.

Broner has not fought since he was defeated by boxing legend Manny Pacquiao last January and he's had a turbulent few years.

He has not won any of his last three fights, having lose to Mikey Garcia and drawn with Jessie Vargas previous to the 'Pac Man' bout.

Away from the ring, Broner was ordered to pay $830,000 (£626,0000) for sexually assaulting a woman in a night club in Cleveland in 2018.

He also faced charges of misdemeanour battery and sexual-battery for incidents in Las Vegas and Atlanta in 2016 and 2018 respectively.
