Technique, power? Not quite.

You wouldn't be blamed if, when asking former middleweight and super-middleweight boxing champion, Chris Eubank, you said he'd back his fellow professional.

Eubank, whose golden years were the early 90s, even has handed down the boxing genes to his son, Chris Eubank Jr.

So, when asked to choose between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor for the upcoming super-fight on August 26, it'd be an obvious answer for him, right? Wrong.

In fact, Eubank firmly believes that Conor 'Notorious' McGregor has enough to beat Floyd 'Money' Mayweather, for one simple reason.

McGregor's advantage, according to Eubank, lies in the fact that he is Irish.

"What everyone knows about boxing is missing, what they're not thinking about, what is so obvious, everybody is forgetting that he is an Irishman. An Irish has a spirit that cannot They have a spirit that cannot... they are special people," Eubank said.

He likened the Irish to the Maoris of New Zealand and the Maroons of Jamaica, emphasising their solidarity.

He continued: "I'm not bumping them up, I'm not Irish, I'm just saying my observations of this, this people, they are amazing.

"So, I'm not talking about Conor McGregor, I'm not talking about an MMA fighter, I'm talking about an Irishman, they are always to be respected.

"It's likely that Mayweather Junior is taking his eye off the target. You're fighting an Irishman. That is enough. This fight is a very interesting fight, not because of ability, but because of spirit."

Eubank even defended his credibility on the matter. Having been there and done it, he commented: "Experience gives you a knowledge that puts you in a position of council."

Since the fight was announced, MMA legend, McGregor has been showing his extreme workouts and progress on his Instagram page.

The former two-belt champion of UFC will look to beat Mayweather at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in under a month.

He's already shown his proud Irish roots by snatching the flag of his home nation at a press conference, where Floyd Mayweather walked out on to the stage with it draped on his back.

Mayweather, who has come out of retirement to face McGregor, boasts a 49-0 perfect win record throughout his career.

The fight odds currently see Mayweather as strong favourite, but maybe anyone looking to hedge their bets should wait.

It has been announced that on the day before the fight there will be a Mini-Mayweather versus Mini-McGregor fight in a Las Vegas strip club. Maybe that can give an indication as to which way it will go?
