Tom Cruise Accused Of Trying To 'Upstage' Ash Barty During Wimbledon Final

Tom Cruise has been accused of trying to 'upstage' Ash Barty during the Wimbledon final.

Barty became the first Australia woman to win the prestigious tournament in 41 years after defeating Karolina Pliskova.

But while the spotlight should have been fixated on the Aussie, there appeared to be some bloke in the crowd trying to steal her thunder throughout.

And that bloke happened to be Hollywood royalty.

Movie megastar Tom Cruise was in attendance at Centre Court, but couldn't help himself by standing up every now and again to interact with the crowd.

By the looks of things, he was lapping up all the attention as he enjoyed posing for socially-distanced photographs with fans.

Spectators inside the famous arena appeared to be loving it at the time, but the same couldn't be said for people watching from home.

Aboriginal activist Professor Megan Davis tweeted: "I'm surprised the official Wimbledon account noticed Ash won cos they seem to be obsessed with Tom Cruise," Aboriginal activist Professor Megan Davis tweeted.

While the Sydney Morning Herald's Latika M Burke added: "OMG tom cruise it's really not about you."

Elsewhere, others chimed, urging the Mission Impossible star to: "Sit down."

But perhaps the most damning assessment came from Mel Jones during her appearance on Fox Sports Australia's show The Back Page.

When asked why she was covering her mouth while watching Barty during the final, the former Australian cricketer said: "I think that was me just covering my mouth saying, 'Tom Cruise, sit down. It's not about you'."

Fans also took aim at Wimbledon's official social media accounts for giving Cruise so much attention throughout the All English Club final.
