Kevin Walters' Fiery Pre-Game Speech That Almost Inspired The Brisbane Broncos To An Upset Victory

The Broncos looked like a team reborn against the Penrith Panthers – and judging by Walters' Braveheart-style speech, you can see why.

William Wallace, eat your heart out.

Brisbane Broncos head coach Kevin Walters has produced a Braveheart-style speech that almost inspired his side to an upset victory over the Penrith Panthers.

Walters was captured on camera ripping into his team ahead of their clash against the NRL table-toppers.

And while it certainly looked animated and passionate enough, it clearly worked a treat as the Broncos ended up producing arguably their best performance of the season so far which saw them put 12 points past their high-flying opposition.

Prior to last night's rather-surprising result, Walters was arguably under pressure having mustered up just one win since the beginning of the season.

And with his team sitting rock bottom of the NRL ladder, the players looked like they were in need of a boot up the arse.

Enter, Kevvie.

Coming back from an ad break during their pre-game television coverage, Nine managed to capture the moment Walters passionately rallied his troops just minutes before they were due to step foot on the field.

"Kevvie Walters was blowing up deluxe, very upset about something that maybe that happened in the warm-up, he is a coach looking for a response from his team tonight," Warren Smith said on Fox League's coverage.

In the clip, you can see Walters addressing his Brisbane side with almost every single one of the players giving him their full attention.

And, well, the speech clearly hit home with the Broncos coming out for the opening sets firing on all cylinders.

"Really good start from the Broncos," Braith Anasta said in the Fox League commentary box.

"Kevvie fired up before the game and it seems to have rubbed off on his players.

"Really good set, that first set in attack and good kick chase and pressure. Plenty of energy, plenty of speed in defence, good signs early."

While Brisbane looked like a completely different team to what we're used to seeing, it still wasn't enough to get them over the line with tries from Kurt Capewell, Matt Burton and Nathan Cleary sealing a 20-12 victory for the Panthers.

A much-needed victory still went amiss, but last night the gritty Broncos proved they can dig deep and match it with the NRL's best.

And by the looks of things, that pre-game speech from Walters seemed to do the trick.
