Snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan has never been the type to bite his tongue. And his latest interview was no exception.

O'Sullivan gave a damning assessment of the sport's next generation of talent in one of the bluntest interviews you'll ever see.

After advancing to the World Championship quarter-finals, the 44-year-old slammed his younger competitors claiming that they're not on the same level as his generation of players.

While O'Sullivan clearly isn't impressed with the next crop of stars, the brutal interview itself makes for quality entertainment as snooker fans around the globe were left open-mouthed.

Speaking to the BBC, O'Sullivan didn't hold back.

"If you look at the younger players coming through, they're not that good really," he said.

"Most of them would do well as half-decent amateurs, or not even amateurs they're so bad.

"A lot of them you see now, you think, cor, I've probably got to lose an arm and a leg to fall outside the top 50.

"So that's why we're hovering around because of how poor it is down that end."

The five-time world champion's brutal comments quickly circulated on social media after Guardian editor James Dart shared the video.

Naturally, fans joined the conversation in the thread - some siding with the snooker great and others disagreeing.

One fan tweeted: "This is savage AF and borderline disrespectful...but he's spot on. I've seen more pots this year not even make the jaws of the pocket than ever before."

While another said: "He's got a point. Not that I'm near professional in any sport myself, but what do you expect? His quality takes 1000s of hours of effort, that young people probably aren't putting in nowadays."

Regardless of how everyone else feels, it's crystal clear where O'Sullivan stands on the situation.
