Paul Pierce has dropped a major hint regarding his next career move after he was infamously sacked by ESPN a month ago.

And it kind of ties into why the sports broadcasting giants gave him the boot in the first place.

Boston Celtics icon Pierce recently took to social media to document his visit to a marijuana factory.

In a video posted on his Instagram story, the 2008 NBA champion can be seen strolling through the a huge factory filled to the brim with weed and all the necessary equipment to help it grow.

"We're over here in the lab, baby," he said into the camera.

"Coming soon baby. In the lab, in the lab."

Pierce was fired by ESPN at the start of April after his Instagram Live video went viral for all the wrong reasons.

The 43-year-old posted the clip live from a strip club while smoking and drinking and he was subsequently sacked just a matter of days later.

"Yo, just want to thank all my supporters and thank my haters and everything," he on social media after getting the boot.

"Check it out, bigger and better things coming, baby. Don't worry about it. You fall twice, you get up three times. Just always remember to smile, baby."

But if Pierce is genuine about entering the Marijuana game, then now could be the perfect time to do so.

With laws surrounding marijuana growth and distribution loosening across the United States, multiple sports stars and big-name celebrities have already got involved in the lucrative business.

The likes of Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Die Antwoord, Ghostface Killah and The Game all have their own strains of cannabis and edibles.

Elsewhere, Whoopi Goldberg is the founder of a cannabis-infused topicals company while Martha Stewart has a partnership with Canopy Growth who develop CBD oil products for animals.

And, of course, boxing royalty Mike Tyson has launched his own cannabis resort and factory fittingly-named the "Tyson Ranch".
