Tributes have come flooding in for the victims following the recent shootings in Atlanta that killed eight people.

Some of the biggest athletes on planet joined others in sending their condolences to the families of the victims.

One of those sports stars who shared their thoughts and prayers was LeBron James.

The Los Angeles Lakers took to social media to show support for those impacted while also condemning the action of the shooting suspect, 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long.

He tweeted: "My condolences goes out to the families of all the victims and the entire Asian community tonight on what transpired in Atlanta at the Aromatherapy Spa. Coward a** young man!! Just senseless and tragic!!

Fellow basketball player Jeremy Lin, who is currently plying his trade with the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA's G League, has been using his platform to combat anti-Asian racism.

He also took to Twitter to share his thoughts after the tragic news broke.

"This is sooo heartbreaking... praying for our world," he said.

"To my Asian American family, please take time to grieve but know you're loved, seen and IMPORTANT. We have to keep standing up, speaking out, rallying together and fighting for change. We cannot lose hope!!

"Not trying to learn more about how it was a "bad day" for the murderer from the media. Tell me more about the victims and how they didn't deserve this. Humanise them. Let's talk about their stories."

As for suspected shooter Long, he has been charged with multiple counts of murder as well as aggravated assault.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Frank Reynolds, the alleged gunman claimed to have a "sex addiction".

"He apparently has an issue, what he considers a sex addiction, and sees these locations as a temptation for him that he wanted to eliminate," Captain Jay Baker added.

Long is currently awaiting trial.
