Ben Simmons' Response To $26m Pay Rise Shows What Kind Of Athlete He Really Is

The Aussie's inclusion in the NBA's All Third Team put him in line for a mega-money pay day – not that he spent much time celebrating.

After cashing a cheque of $26million, Ben Simmons isn't laughing all the way to the bank like you'd expect.

Instead, he's running all the way to the weights room.

The Aussie star has just received a massive pay bonus of $26m after being named in the NBA's All Third Team for 2020 and he's already hitting the gym ahead of next season.

Despite the Philadelphia's 76ers' early exit from the Walt Disney World Playoffs, it seems Simmons' individual accolades are finally being rewarded with an All-NBA selection.

And while being a part of an elite club of the league's best 15 players is a great achievement in itself, it appears his mega-money pay day is what most people seem to be talking about.

In 2019, Simmons signed an extension with the Sixers which included some hefty performance-based bonuses.

And the 24-year-old was clearly keen on bagging those bonuses.

He had a stellar campaign and was named in the All-Defensive First Team of the year, but it was his inclusion in the NBA's All Third Team which genuinely put him in line for a new contract perk.

As a result, Simmons got a pay rise of over $25m - but he didn't spend too long celebrating.

Just hours after the news broke, the six-foot-eight-inch guard posted a video on social media of him in the gym with the caption: "No vacation, don't deserve it".

It seems Philadelphia's demoralising defeat at the hands of the Boston Celtics didn't sit well with the Aussie.
