The recent popcorn-throwing incident involving Russell Westbrook and a spectator has sparked outrage among NBA experts and players alike.

One of those people who was fuming was LeBron James.

The Los Angeles Lakers megastar says he "wants to see" the man who poured the popcorn on Westbrook's head as the Washington Wizards guard was being escorted from the arena with an injury.

"By the way WE AS THE PLAYERS wanna see who threw that popcorn on Russ while he was leaving the game tonight with an injury," LeBron tweeted.

"There's cameras all over arenas so there's no excuse! Because if the shoe was on the other foot..."

Understandably, Westbrook was absolutely fuming following the incident and even tried to confront the bloke.

But it seems he wasn't the only one raging with a bunch of the NBA's biggest figures quickly jumping to his defence online.

ESPN analyst Skip Bayless took to Twitter to show his support for Westbrook.

He tweeted: "Sure, part of me wishes Russell Westbrook could've been allowed to go after the fan who dumped popcorn on him and send a message to all fans: THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. But obviously the law and league won't allow that. So at least the fan was removed and hopefully be banned.

"Westbrook is so right. The price of a ticket doesn't give the fan the right to yell whatever the fan wants or to throw food at a player. Westbrook: if that fan had poured popcorn on him in the street, "it would've been different." You better believe it."

Elsewhere, radio host Howard skinner added: "This fan should never be permitted in a Sixers game ever again after throwing popcorn on Russell Westbrook while leaving court with injury. And they can track his ass down. No class!"

While television presenter and co-host of The Herd Joy Taylor also weighed in.

"This "fan" is a punk and I'm being kind," she tweeted.

"Westbrook could pull his arms off his body if he wanted to. Ban him from the arena."

As for Westbrook himself, he seems to have finally grown tired of the continued disrespect he receives on a regular basis.

"This s**t is getting out of hand, especially for me," he said after his side's 120-95 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

"The amount of disrespect, the amount of fans just doing whatever the f**k they want to do. It's out of pocket."

It remains to be seen what punishment is handed down to the man who threw the popcorn.
