Conor McGregor has had his say on the Covid-19 vaccine debate.

But, in typical McGregor fashion, his tweet was swiftly deleted after just 15 minutes.

Twitter

Since the very first outbreak back at the start of 2020, the Irishman has kept his opinions on the jab relatively quiet - until now, it seems.

Just a few days after slamming the Irish government for reintroducing strict coronavirus restrictions, McGregor has now taken aim at the success rate of the vaccine.

"The vaccines have not worked to stop this whatsoever," McGregor tweeted.

"More vaccinated than ever. More cases than ever.

"Reevaluate entirely. Stop taking handouts."

Unsurprisingly, the former dual-division UFC champion's comments drew a mixed response from other social media users.

Some people took to the comments section to rip into McGregor, while others appeared to show their support by liking and sharing it.

Before it was deleted on the 15-minute mark, it had racked up almost 10,000 likes on Twitter alone.

Granted, every person has the right to their own opinion, but McGregor's theory is rather flawed.

According to multiple health organisations dotted around the globe, the purpose of vaccinations is to reduce hospitalisation rates - technically not stopping you from contracting the virus itself.

It's understood Ireland's adult population is over 90% fully vaccinated already but rumours suggest the country could enter a snap lockdown, although this is yet to be confirmed yet.

As we've all seen over the past two years, the virus and vaccine have continued to be a hot topic among us all - particularly among high-profile athletes.

People seem to be fascinated with athletes' views on the matter with some sports stars choosing to speak out against the jab while others have opted to keep their mouths shut.

For the most part, mixed martial artists have slotted into the latter option despite the no vaccine mandate for fighter's in the UFC.

McGregor, who has been quite vocal on social media since his loss to Dustin Poirier, has now turned his attention from calling out every fighter under the sun to calling out the vaccine.
