Colby Covington Takes Aim At Kamaru Usman's Incarcerated Father In Another Below-The-Belt Shot

"At least my father wasn’t in prison. Scamming everybody out of their hard-earned money. These people work their asses off..."

Colby Covington has taken yet another below the belt shot at Kamaru Usman, this time bringing his opponent's father into the equation.

Covington has never shied away from the mental warfare side of the fight game - and by that we mean trash-taking basically every other mixed martial artist under the sun.

But Covington's beef with current UFC welterweight champion Usman seems different.

These two, however much they try to disguise it, have a deep-seated hatred of one another and that fierce rivalry reached boiling point at the UFC 267 press conference in New York.

After their intense face-off, which resulted in the usually-collected Usman losing his rag and shoving Covington, the American clearly didn't take too kindly to it and starting slinging insults in the champ's direction.

It's tricky to hear exactly what Covington says, but he yells something along the lines of: "Make sure your daddy shows up, I want your daddy to see this."

Usman's father Muhammed was jailed back in 2009 after being charged with multiple counts of health care fraud.

Muhammed ended up serving 10 years of his 15-year sentence and was released in early 2020.

It would undoubtedly be a touchy subject for Usman, but the "Nigerian Nightmare" refused to retaliate when Covington mentioned it earlier in the press conference.

"He's saying that I was faking this and that, but I didn't. I stayed in the fight and I broke your f**king jaw," Usman said.

But Covington hit back.

"The only thing you broke was your daddy out of prison," Covington said.

"Where's that jailbird at? We need the scam artist here just like his son."

Trying to remain professional, Usman let the brutal comments go in one ear and out the other.

"As a competitor, I love what he brings to the table," Usman said.

"He pushes me and I expect that from him. But as a person, he's a piece of sh*t. I can't believe his father let him put this persona on."

But again, Covington was on hand to bring up the champion's dad again.

"At least my father wasn't in prison," Covington replied.

"Scamming everybody out of their hard-earned money. These people work their asses off, all these blue-collar Americans and you're going to scam them out of millions of dollars? Did you pay back all his fees? Disgusting. Despicable."

For anyone who only got to see the push during their staredown, perhaps this goes some way to explaining why Usman lost his temper.

Thankfully for the duo, they'll get the chance to settle their differences on the weekend when the square of their rematch for the 170-pound strap.
