A damning video has surfaced online showing British police getting charged at by Hungarian football fans at Wembley Stadium.

Disturbing scenes played out during the World Cup qualifier between England and Hungary when a section of the Hungarian crowd clashed with local authorities.

It's understood police inside the stadium arrested a supporter after they allegedly racially abused a steward at the match.

And while the police were making the arrest, tensions boiled over when the Hungarian fans charged at them.

A riot squad eventually arrived on scene to restore order, but scary new vision has emerged on social media showing the stand-off between police and supporters.

In a clip posted on Twitter by Hooligans TV, you can see police wielding batons as they make their way into the away stand.

But it doesn't take long for them to be completely outnumbered by the raging fans and they're quickly forced to retreat back down the entrance where they arrived.

The Hungarian supporters give chase, backing the police up against the hallways that lead out into the main concourse at Wembley.

In the video, the police and fans are literally staring each other in the face as authorities desperately try to avoid being attacked.

The authorities are eventually forced back as the violence spills out into the concourse.

The shocking footage has done the rounds on social media with most people (other than a small portion) condemning the fans for their actions.

"Shortly after the start of tonight's match at Wembley, officers entered the stand to arrest a spectator for a racially aggravated public order offence following comments made towards a steward," the Metropolitan Police tweeted.

"As the officers made the arrest, minor disorder broke out involving other spectators. Order was quickly restored and there have been no further incidents at this stage."

Unfortunately it wasn't the only incident that occurred during the 1-1 draw in the World Cup qualifier.

Earlier in the match, England players were relentlessly booed by Hungarian supporters as they took a knee before kick-off.

One portion of fans were even seen holding up an anti-kneeling banner during the demonstration.

The FA have confirmed that they have now launched an official investigation in the matter and will be reporting it to FIFA and UEFA too.
