The bloke's wife only found out what it meant when their daughter was two years old.

Over four years ago, we caught wind of one of the best baby-naming stories of all-time.

And even to this day, it's absolutely brilliant.

Back in 2016, a football fan from Australia convinced his wife to name their daughter 'Lanesra' without explaining why - other than that it sounded nice.

Two years later, that brave father from Bankstown explained the reason behind Lanesra's name - and you can probably imagine his wife was fuming.

It turns out 'Lanesra' was actually named after her father's favourite football team.

If you haven't already worked out it, then 'Lanesra' is actually 'Arsenal' spelt backwards.

Clearly outraged by the news, the child's mother wrote a letter to her local magazine to share the story.

"We chose our daughter's name, Lanesra, because it was unique and romantic," the column within Take 5 magazine read.

Twitter

"It wasn't 'til she was two that my husband told me it was actually his favourite soccer team, Arsenal, spelled backwards!"

When the story broke, people on social media reacted just as you'd expect - with brutal honesty.

Arsenal fans were quick to praise the father for his 'stroke of genius', while others reminded the mother that it was actually a rather cute name.

Either way, the story makes for brilliant viewing - even to this day.
