Callum Smith Left With 'Popeye' Arm Injury After Canelo Alvarez Defeat

Callum Smith has admitted that he was 'devastated' after his comprehensive defeat to Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on Saturday night.
The Brit was well beaten by Canelo, and, according to promoter Eddie Hearn, suffered from a detached bicep in the second or third round of the unanimous points victory for Canelo.
With a bicep injury like the one Smith suffered in round 5, there's no way you can box your normal fight.

The Mexican won 119-109, 119-109 and 117-111 according to the judges, and was well worth the win with several incredible feats of talent - including one particularly impressive uppercut job combo.
While Alvarez likely would have won whatever happened, Smith cannot have been helped by his injury - which he could be seen sporting on the way out of the venue.
His arm can be seen extremely swollen, and it is unknown when he will be able to return to the ring.

Hearn explained to BBC Radio Five Live: "You just saw the pound-for-pound king. Callum Smith is so tough. He have a great interview there. I think he detached his bicep in the second or third round but it didn't really matter.
"It was a masterclass from Canelo. I just left Smith's changing room and everyone is talking about Alvarez. He's just so good.
"I'm proud of Callum. He never stopped throwing but he came up against the best fighter on the planet."
Smith himself was devastated, and told broadcaster DAZN: "I'm devastated. I came here to win. No excuses, he was very good.

"Maybe I've been on the weight too long. I don't feel as dominant late on in fights. It could have been a better version of me tonight. He performed and was the better man.
"He is smart to be honest. He is clever. He closes ground, sets traps and before you know it he's closed the ground up. I maybe let him close the ground up too easily."
