Controversial Oscar Pistorius 'Blade Gunner' Costume Has Been Banned

Controversial Oscar Pistorius 'Blade Gunner' Costume Has Been Banned

Would it even be Halloween if some attention-seeking d***head didn’t get dressed up as something horrifically offensive?

Would it even be Halloween if some attention-seeking dickhead didn't get dressed up as a Nazi or Jimmy Savile?

There seems to be a stock collection of these 'shock-factor' costumes - they get rolled out every year, largely for 'wacky' types, obsessed with being at the cutting edge of bad taste. And look, right on cue, here's a new one to add to the fancy dress box.

Meet 'Blade Gunner':

Until it was removed from Amazon, the costume was described as: "The Paralympic runner costume is sure to cause some controversy at your next event."

For those of you who are unfamiliar with disgraced Paralympians, it's a piss-take of Oscar Pistorius, the 'blade runner' who shot his model girlfriend dead through a bathroom door.

The costume received so much negative attention on Amazon that it was swiftly removed and followed by a statement from the online retailer.

"All Marketplace sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who don't will be subject to action, including potential removal of their account.

"The product in question is no longer available."

However, if you're still desperate to offend people and potentially get your head kicked in, there are still a few retailers that have your back.

One such place is Joker's Masquerade, which not only stocks the Blade Gunner costume, but has an entire section devoted to tasteless Halloween get-ups.

"WARNING! If you are easily offended, our Bad Taste Costumes may not be for you," the site warns visitors.

"Here at Jokers' Masquerade we decided to be a little rebellious by compiling this collection of wonderfully inappropriate costumes for those who like to push the boundaries. Perfect for stag do's and wild nights out, this range of rude, lewd and crude costumes are guaranteed to ensure you stand out from the crowd and raise a few eyebrows."

The disclaimer is immediately followed by a gallery of questionable outfits, including a giant condom, complete with fluorescent spunk; an, erm, 'unflattering' granny outfit with a horrendous name; a knight with a floppy cock and, of course, 'Blade Gunner' himself.

A quick click on the latter reveals the following description:

"Cause lots of controversy at your next party with our Adult Blade Runner Costume. This eye-catching, head-turning costume idea is ideal for any event, whether it be Halloween or just a shindig at a friends.

"The Adult Blade Runner Costume includes a yellow and green South African motif vest with printed details. The printing features 'Blade Gunner' written across the torso with the number 2012 printed below on a white background. Also included is a pair of matching green and yellow shorts.

"Completing the costume are the black and silver boot covers that come up to just under the knee, giving the impression that you have metal running blades instead of legs, just like that infamous Paralympic‎ runner. Holding the boot covers up are the white knee pads that all Paralympians use to hold the false legs in place."

Some people might suggest it's nice to be able to choose between 'giving the impression that you have metal running blades instead of legs' and having that as a reality, but they'd probably be shouted down for not having a sense of humour. Lol, eh?

Either way, I'll probably just stick to a bed sheet with eyeholes cut in it, thanks very much.
