Seattle Seahawks have made Russell Wilson the highest-paid player in the NFL after agreeing a mega contract.

He's signed a four-year extension, worth a massive $140 million (£107 million).

Wilson's new deal ties him down to the Seahawks through the 2023 season, and includes a huge $65 million (£50 million) signing bonus not to mention a no-trade clause.

His contract gives him an average annual value of $35 million (£27 million) a year.

What's more, it's the first time the Seahawks have had the highest-paid player in the league.

Steve Largent was the highest-paid wide receiver in 1989.

The 30-year-old also beats legendary Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rogers as the highest-paid player in the NFL.

Wilson thanked his agent, Mark Rodgers, on social media after striking a deal.

"To Mark Rodgers @JohnMarkRodgers my agent & father figure... You believed in me 10 years ago when no one else would.. Thanks for being who you are as a man and friend. You are the best in the game," he posted on Twitter.

Rodgers has also reacted to the record-setting agreement: "At the end of the day, my guy wants to live, work, thrive in Seattle. Loves this town and it's fans. He compromised to stay here. I respect that."

The 2019 NFL season kicks-off in September. Will Wilson steer the Seahawks to Superbowl glory?
