Chicago Bears quarterback Zach Miller could have 'lost his leg' after suffering a truly horrific dislocated knee during a game against New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
Miller received emergency surgery to save his left leg, just hours after he leapt to catch a pass and landed awkwardly on a disallowed touchdown. The 33-year-old's kneecap snapped beneath him before he collapsed to the floor in agony.
According to former NFL head team doctor David Chao, the injury was a 'true emergency' and only 'early action' could save his leg.
"A minimum of two ligaments are torn. This is an injury like a knee dislocation." Chao said via his official Twitter account.
Chicago eventually lost the game 20-12, but the main topic of conversation both during and after the game was Miller's injury.
Here's how social media reacted to the incident:
Our best wishes go to Zach.
Let's hope he can get back on the field in the near future.
