Antonio Brown has been released by the New England Patriots after just one game, and less than a month after his release from the Oakland Raiders.

The controversial wide receiver was released by the Raiders at the beginning of September without playing a single game. He was soon picked up by the Patriots and played in the 43-0 win over Miami Dolphins last Sunday.

However on Friday the club confirmed they'd released Brown saying, "The New England Patriots are releasing Antonio Brown. We appreciate the hard work of many people over the past 11 days, but we feel that it is best to move in a different direction at this time."

It was the player who first broke the news as he took to Twitter to say 'Thank you for the opportunity @Patriots #GoWinIt' before the club confirmed the news just minutes later.

Brown was traded to the Raiders from the Pittsburgh Steelers back in March but the controversy started with an argument over him not being allowed to wear his old helmet.

The 31-year-old was then fined $54,000 for missing training and then confronted general manager Mike Mayock about the fine and threatened to hit Mayock during the argument.

He apologised to his teammates two days later and looked set to play in the season opener later that week but a day later he ask to be released by his contract when his guaranteed money was voided.

On September 10th Brown was accused of sexual assault and rape, which he denies, and just six days later Sports Illustrated published a report with a second woman accusing the NFL star of sexual misconduct.

Pats general manager Bill Belichick had shut down a press conference earlier on Friday due to the amount of questions he received about Brown.

The Florida born star signed a contact on September 9th with the Patriots worth up to $15 million but finds himself with a club for the second time in less than a month.
