Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney reveal incredible plan to make Wrexham's stadium bigger than the Etihad

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have revealed ambitious plans to expand Wrexham's stadium capacity to more than most Premier League grounds.

Wrexham's Hollywood owners are still celebrating the club's promotion to League One after the Welsh club finished second in League Two behind rivals Stockport County.

It is Wrexham's second consecutive promotion under the ownership of Reynolds and McElhenney and the pair have already set their sights on rising further up the football pyramid.

When purchasing the club in 2021, Reynolds and McElhenney made a series of promises to supporters – vowing to restore the club to its former glory while developing the stadium and training facilities.

As part of those plans, Wrexham's 12,600-capacity Racecourse Ground is currently under redevelopment with a new 5,500 Kop stand already approved.

And the two Hollywood A-listers have now revealed they are planning for Wrexham to have a bigger stadium than several huge Premier League sides – despite the city itself only having a population of just under 45,000.

When McElhenney was asked if a 16,000-capacity stadium was sufficient or if 20,000 be the long-term aim for the club, he told Collider: "We have a plan in place right now that would eventually work from stand to stand.

"So eventually, you get all four sides, and it's hard to say for sure, but we think we could get between 45,000 and 55,000 people in there."

Incredibly, that would give Wrexham a stadium bigger than several top Premier League sides including defending champions Manchester City – as well as the likes of Chelsea and Aston Villa.

The Etihad currently has a capacity of 53,400, while Stamford Bridge holds 40,341 and Villa Park houses 42,640 fans.

Should Wrexham build a 55,000-seat stadium, only Wembley, Twickenham, Old Trafford, the Principality in Cardiff, Murrayfield, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London Stadium, Anfield, Celtic Park and the Emirates would be bigger in the UK.
