Liverpool star makes shock decision on his future in major blow to Arne Slot

One Liverpool player has made a shock decision on his future, it has been claimed.

Liverpool are set for another summer of transition in the off-season, with Jurgen Klopp set to be replaced by Arne Slot.

Moreover, several players could also be out of the exit door, with Joel Matip set to depart the Reds after eight seasons at the club and Mohamed Salah’s future appearing uncertain.

The latter has just a year remaining on his reported £350,000-a-week contract and has attracted the interest of clubs in Saudi Arabia. Indeed, Salah was the subject of a £150million verbal offer from Al-Ittihad last summer, and it remains to be seen whether the Saudi club will renew their interest.

According to the Anfield Watch, another who could depart is Joe Gomez, with the 26-year-old allegedly open to a fresh challenge.

While the defender is not looking to force a move, the publication has alleged that he has made it known he would like the club to listen to any reasonable offers for his services.

The player, who came through the Charlton academy, would allege prefer a return to London if he is to leave Liverpool this summer.

Gomez’s departure would come as a blow to Slot, with the versatile centre-back having made 16 Premier League starts this term, his most since the 2019/20 campaign, and earned himself a recall to Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Gomez’s reported desire to leave may be influenced by Klopp’s impending departure, with the Liverpool star having spoken of the influence the German has had on his career, back in March.

Gomez said: "I owe a lot to him. He's been the biggest influence in my career.

"We all appreciate him massively but nothing has changed and we all want to do well. All we can do is focus on what is ahead."
