Thomas Muller’s interview with CBS after Bayern’s 2-2 draw was an all-time classic, he even got Aurelien Tchouameni involved

Thomas Muller’s interview with CBS after Bayern’s 2-2 draw was an all-time classic, he even got Aurelien Tchouameni involved

The German international is one of the biggest characters in football.

Thomas Muller delivered a post-match interview for the ages after Tuesday night's Champions League clash between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid – and even Aurelien Tchouameni got involved.

The 34-year-old forward, who has spent 16 trophy-laden years at the Bavarian club, made his 150th appearance in the Champions League during their semi-final first leg against Los Blancos.

It was a landmark moment for Bayern stalwart Muller, who became the first German player ever to reach that number. In fact, only five players have played more games in Europe's elite competition.

Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi made 151 appearances, while Karim Benzema (152), Lionel Messi (163), Iker Casillas (177) and the competitions all-time top scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo (183), make up the top five.

And in his post-match interview with CBS after Tuesday's entertaining 2-2 draw at the Allianz, former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel informed Muller of his latest achievement.

Muller, who made his first-team debut at Bayern in 2008, said making 150 appearances in the Champions League was "not a bad" feat before saying you need to "sleep well and eat well" at his age to reach such a milestone.

Moments later, the German pointed out Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni as he walked into shot. "Tchouameni is listening for the tactics for the next game," he joked.

The comment brought laughs from pundits Micah Richards, Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher, who went on to ask Muller what has given Bayern belief in the latter stages of this season's European campaign.

"The games and the win over Arsenal gave us a little bit of self-confidence," he admitted.

"Not the team spirit where you go out and drink a beer together but it gave us this belief, this kind of… this Konni Laimer feeling when he is hunting Odegaard like a dog, maybe you know this story.

"This winning feeling, it gave us a little bit more belief in ourselves to be a bit more aggressive in the last few weeks. We’re in a good mood, we are not playing perfect but we are playing better."

In terms of in-game action, Vinicius Junior scored a brace for Real Madrid as they came away with a 2-2 draw following goals from Leroy Sane and Harry Kane. The second leg will be played on Wednesday, May 8 in Madrid.
