Dana White Says Conor McGregor Could Return If 'Something Happens' To Khabib Vs Poirier

Dana White has dropped a bombshell tease that Conor McGregor could return at UFC 242 if something were to happen to Khabib Nurmagomedov or Dustin Poirier.

The Irish MMA superstar, 31, has been on hiatus from UFC after his fourth-round defeat to Khabib, 30, at UFC 229 last year.

But UFC president White, 50, revealed that the 'Notorious' could be brought back ahead of schedule in case something happens to Khabib or Poirier.

"Yeah, I talked to him last week, he [McGregor] wants to come back," he said during the post-fight press conference at UFC 240.

"Really what he's doing is looking to see how everything plays out in September. I was just thinking out there, as of right now... Khabib and Poirier are fighting.

"You know how this business works: anything can happen and usually does. So I think he's just sort of waiting to see how it all plays out and does he have an opportunity somewhere to jump in and make something happen."

UFC lightweight champ Khabib is set to return in September after serving the nine-month suspension handed down to him for his part in the post-fight brawl at UFC 229.

A teammate of McGregor, Peter Queally, has said that the Irishman's return to UFC in 2019 would be "realistic."

He continued: "He's been struggling a little bit with a hand injury, which has been well documented in the media, so it's hard to tell, but it's definitely realistic that he will fight by the end of the year.

"If he wants to fight by the end of the year, he will fight by the end of the year."

McGregor, who served a six-month suspension for his part in the controversial aftermath of UFC 229, recently took to Twitter to reignite his rivalry with Khabib by 'trolling' him during a certain incident from their UFC 229 clash.
