Four Things We Learned From Playing UFC 3

Four Things We Learned From Playing UFC 3

The new combat sports game is out now...

UFC 3, the latest combat sports game from EA Sports is out in all good stores and retailers, having been released earlier this month.

We managed to get our hands on it to see what it was all about and apart it being rock solid and me being utter dross at it, here are four other things we picked up on:

The knockout mode is where it's at:

It's all well and good having three or five rounds featuring all the key skills in MMA but the knockout mode is easily the most enjoyable mode on the game.

The mode, which was also on UFC 2, is entirely based around strikes, kicks and knees - no submissions or grappling necessary because, let's be honest, no-one wants to win like that.

Of course it's a fundamental part of the sport in real life but when it comes the game, you just want to destroy your opponent in swift and devastating fashion. This fun and fast mode gives you just that.

Plus, this year you have the one and only Snoop Dogg providing commentary and it's utterly brilliant. Him screaming "YOU JUST GOT KNOCKED THE FUCK OUT!" as you hit your opponent with a brutal roundhouse is the best thing ever.

The G.O.AT. career mode is life-like:

The all-new career mode gives players the chance to create and customise their very own fighter and go from the bottom to the very top, with the task being to complete eight of twelve achievements to claim 'G.O.AT' status and cement your place at the top of the tree.

In a way, it takes a leaf out of FIFA 18's 'The Journey' mode in the sense that there is a big emphasis placed on what goes on outside the Octagon, as well as the furious action inside.

A new in-game social media system allows you to do some trash-talking and beef with other fighters, while you can also build your profile through promotional events.

McGregor is the main man:

It should come as no surprise consider he's the biggest star in UFC, but the game does revolve around the 'Notorious' Conor McGregor in the same way that FIFA 18 is all about five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

Not only is the Irishman the cover star, front and centre on the game, the UFC 3 intro is a promo made up of game footage and real-life action, charting his rise to becoming a two-weight champion and building up to an eagerly anticipated showdown with Tony Ferguson, which is the first fight you partake in at the very start of the game.

With his showboating antics and deadly striking, McGregor is easily the most fun fighter to play with on the game.

Realism is incredible:

It's to be expected with the advance in technology but the realism in UFC 3 is outstanding, in particular the graphics. You could be forgiven for thinking you're watching UFC on the Fight Pass instead of playing a game such is how realistic everything is from the walkouts, the pre-match gloves touch and the action itself.

Every detail has been captured, and courtesy of the new Real Player Motion (RPM) technology, which features over 5,000 animations, the moves, styles and mannerisms of the biggest stars in UFC is eerily accurate.

Have you played UFC 3 yet? What have you made of it?

Sound off in the comments.
