Poor man...

Icelandic commentator, Gudmundur Benediktsson, has gone from the incomparable euphoria of celebrating a history making last-minute winner to the despair of losing his job just a few days later.

The hero rose to worldwide fame after his commentary of Arnor Ingvi Traustason's winner against Austria with the last kick of the game went viral. The video spread across Twitter and Facebook like wildfire and if you haven't seen it yet, here it is..

The goal saw Iceland win their first ever competition international as well as putting them through to the last 16 as Group F runners-up. Benediktsson returned to Iceland soon after the match and was probably filled with happiness and joy on his return, adrenaline still pumping through his veins following the game. Not for long.

On his return, Gudmundur was informed that his position as Assistant Manager of Icelandic Urvalsdeild side KR Reykjavik was no longer feasible. The side had lost 5 of their last 6 games and currently sit 9th of 12 teams in the league. He, and manager Bjarni Gudjonsson Eggert, agreed that the performances of the club had been unacceptable and both left their posts by mutual consent.

The viral sensation's next job is likely to see him back in the commentary box for Iceland's game against England tomorrow night; and if he is unable to find more work in management, we reckon he has a future as a football commentator.
