Fernando Llorente could be playing in a Leeds shirt before the season is out as Marcelo Bielsa's side fight for a place in the Premier League.

The Tottenham striker, who worked with Bielsa in his Athletic Bilbao days, is now just 5/2 for a sensational switch to Elland Road in January.

The 33-year-old is looking for a move out of North London after falling way down the pecking order under Mauricio Pochettino.

And it is understood Tottenham are willing to let the Spaniard leave for a mere £4million when the transfer window opens in less than two months, rather than lose him for free at the end of the season as his contract runs out.

And Bielsa is keen for a reunion with Llorente, who he sold to Juventus five years ago, as he believes the tall-experience striker can fire Leeds back into the Prem for the first time in 14 years.

The Argentine coach will have to fend off competition from Bilbao if he hopes to land the World Cup winner, however, he hopes his relationship with the player will help him, as well as, his desire for regular starting place.

"It's never easy to cope with (not starting games). It is a daily struggle with myself, as I find it hard to accept the situation I am in," Llorente admitted.

"It is frustrating to be left on the bench or not be called up.

"I try to put myself in the manager's shoes. He has a difficult task, as we have a big squad and we all want to play.

"It can't be easy to leave out players who have trained well. I'm also aware that I am at one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

"There is a lot of competition in attack. Harry Kane is a phenomenal player, and that makes it difficult for me to play regularly.

Llorente has had spells at Sevilla and Swansea, as well as, Spurs, Juventus, Basconia and Athletic Bilbao and has won 24 caps for Spain.

He won three consecutive Seria A titles, one Coppa Italia, and two Supercoppa Italiana's while at Juventus and the UEFA Europe League with Sevilla, as well as, the European Championship and the World Cup with Spain.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Leeds look great value for a return to the Prem right now. Add Llorente to their ranks and it would be hard to see them not being promoted come next May."
