However, with Team Europe taking a 5-3 lead at Le Golf National on the outskirts of Paris, their odds changed to 4/7, while the USA moved out to 21/10.

European captain Thomas Bjorn took a risk fielding three of his four rookies in the morning fourballs and it didn't pay off as the hosts ended up 3-1 down.

However, the Europeans have taken a two-point lead after whitewashing the Americans in the afternoon foursomes.

Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose defeated Ricky Fowler and Dustin Johnson '3&2', Rory McIlroy and Ian Poulter beat Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson '4&2', Sergio Garcia and Alex Noren were victorious '5&4' against Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau.

While Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood picked up a '5&4' win against Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.
