Simply Spurs Summarises - City Are Quite Good, Aren't They?

A Dramatic Week Of Football From The Perspective Of A Spurs Fan

This is now the 10th Simply Spurs Summarises article I have written here at the ODDSbible HQ and it's rather fitting as 10th is the position Spurs are heading towards in the Premier League. Time to relive another big week of football...sigh.

Once again there was midweek Premier League action which started on Tuesday night. Chelsea comfortably defeated Huddersfield 3-1 at Kirklees Stadium, Bakary Sako tweeted about ruining some accas after Crystal Palace scored two very late goals to come from behind to defeat Watford 2-1, and Burnley scored a very very late winner in a 1-0 win against Stoke which took Sean Dyche's men into the top 4...yep, Burnley Football Club in a Champions League spot. Football really is an odd sport isn't it? A statue of Diego Maradona was also unveiled on Tuesday and it is rather terrifying.

Manchester City continued to make the title race boring as they thrashed Swansea 4-0 on Wednesday night, Serge Aurier scored his first goal for Spurs (which he clearly meant) in a 2-0 win against Brighton at Wembley, Romelu Lukaku finally found his level scoring the only goal in Manchester United's 1-0 win over Bournemouth, Liverpool celebrated drawing to West Brom once again as the game ended 0-0 at Anfield, and West Ham almost grabbed a last minute winner in a 0-0 draw to Arsenal at the London Stadium. Somehow Spurs ended the evening sitting 4th position moving ahead of Arsenal, Liverpool and the mighty Burnley. I've learnt that I need to cherish moments like this nowadays. Tottenham have gone from thrashing Real Madrid in the Champions League to battling for top 4 with Burnley in the league all within a month, times are tough.

Pretty much nothing happened on Thursday and Friday so I'll swiftly move on to the games on Saturday starting off with Leicester entertaining Crystal Palace at the King Power Stadium. I'm sure we all expected Leicester to win with ease especially after smashing Southampton 4-1 at Saint Mary's Stadium, instead we witnessed a Roy Hodgson masterclass...never thought I'd be typing those words in my lifetime. Christian Benteke made up for his late penalty miss last weekend by helping Palace thrash the Foxes 3-0. Quick maths...

In the afternoon fixtures Arsenal won 1-0 at home to Newcastle whilst Chelsea beat Southampton 1-0 also at home, Huddersfield battered Watford 4-1 away from home whilst West Ham hammered Stoke 3-0 away from home (shout out to Marko Arnautovic for celebrating in front of the fans of his old club, funny) and top 4 contenders Burnley could only manage a 0-0 draw away to Brighton. I only saw highlights of these games as I spent most of my Saturday hungover in the back of my mates car for 4 hours being driven back home after a quiet weekend in Bath. Instead of going home that evening I ended up watching Manchester City bully Tottenham at The Etihad. Spurs were abused on the pitch, but at least Manchester Untied were abused off the pitch...

So Manchester City destroyed Spurs 4-1 on Saturday evening as I sulked in the pub with a giant hangover. I even placed a bet on Spurs to win. Tragic. It's depressing watching Ederson ping 50 yards balls for fun with ease whilst Hugo Lloris gives me mini heart attacks trying to complete 4 yard sideways passes. Better move on to Sunday before I go full yer da 'BREXIT MEANS BREXIT' mode. West Brom took on Manchester United at The Hawthorns where Lukaku continued to find his level and Jesse Lingard continued his recent good scoring form. Gareth Barry pulled one back for the Baggies (costing me Fantasy Football points, cheers Gareth) but the game ended 2-1 to United. Liverpool then continued to destroy teams away from home with a 4-0 win against Bournemouth at The Vitality Stadium in the final game on Sunday. I remember when Spurs used to win 4-0... *starts sobbing*

So the mighty Tottenham currently sit 7th in the league and I couldn't hate football any more if I tried. Sorry if I've upset any Spurs fans by being so negative but on the other hand I hope all the rival fans are enjoying my misery. Next Monday is Christmas Day so I doubt that I'll be writing an article, so I wish all of you a Merry Christmas! I hope Santa gives you all what you asked for. I've asked for Spurs not to get relegated...
