Vasyl Lomachenko, arguably the greatest amateur of all time, continues his assault on the paid ranks this weekend when he defend his WBO world super featherweight title against tough New Jersey native Jason Sosa.

Lomachenko, 7-1 (5), has been making waves since turning pro back in 2013, and in just eight fights the Ukranian is already a two-weight world champion and quite rightly considered by many as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet.

The 29 year-old had his first tilt at a world-title in just his second bout, where he found himself somewhat harshly on the wrong side of a split decision points loss against Orlando Salido.

'Hi Tech', Lomachenko's quite apt nickname, made amends in just his third pro fight however, when he won a majority points decision over the talented Gary Russell Jr in 2014, claiming the WBO featherweight title.

Following three defences of his title against less than stellar opposition, Lomachenko moved up to the super-featherweight division in June last year.

There he captured the WBO super-featherweight crown with a sublime knockout win over Roman Martinez.

His last outing was against the hard-hitting Jamaican, Nicholas Walters, who retired in the seventh round in what was an ultimately disappointing encounter.

Lomachenko's opponent on Saturday, Jason Sosa, is currently 20-1-4 (15) and goes in to this fight with decent a pedigree, having drawn with the aforementioned Walters (albeit a controversially) back in 2015.

He followed that draw with eye-catching wins over Javier Fortuna last June and most recently a unanimous decision win over Liverpool's Stephen Smith back in November.

Sosa is a tough fighter and 15 knockouts from his 20 professional wins shows that the American can certainly bang. However, his aggressive style of fighting could prove to be his undoing this weekend.

The 29 year-old is brave and doesn't seem to mind getting hit, something that would be entirely reckless against a master technician like Lomachenko.

Expect the Ukranian to stop the plucky Sosa somewhere between the mid to late rounds.
