Rekindling to outline Derby credentials

2:20: York - Robot Boy 15/2 Each Way and Poyle Vinnie 10/1 Each Way.

Robot Boy has been in scintillating form on the All-Weather but also won a handicap off course and distance here in October. Returns to turf today but is a horse in form.

Poyle Vinnie won well at Southwell on the fibresand at January and probably needed his first race back on turf to adjust back to the surface. He is given another chance as he remains a seven-year-old with potential.

2:55: York - Queen's Trust 13/8.

Winner of the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Santa Anita on good ground under an inspired ride from Dettori. The ground is a massive worry but she does have the best form in the race and she has run ok if not excellently on soft ground before.

3:30: York - Rekindling 6/1 Each Way and Crystal Ocean 7/1 Each Way.

Rekindling was very impressive when winning the Ballysax at Leopardstown last month and he should enjoy the flat galloping track offered by York. Formerly trained by David Wachman, the son of High Chaparral will appreciate the softer ground underfoot and he has a massive chance here.

Despite doubts over his participation, I still think Crystal Ocean would have a big shout here if connections decided to run. An emphatic winner of a Nottingham maiden last time, he has been well touted and he could potentially prove a top-class horse in the making if his breeding is anything to go.

4:05: York - Chelsea Lad 6/1 Each Way and Murad Khan 14/1 Each Way.

Martyn Meade has always spoke highly of Chelsea Lad who returned lame on his seasonal reappearance. If over that issue, he would have a big chance given his unexposed nature. Murad Khan had a liking for soft ground last year and he remains a progressive sort capable of improving massively this year.

4:35: York - Brian The Snail 10/11.

Richard Fahey's charge has impressed on all three starts this term and he returned to action this term with a decisive success at Pontefract in April. He will handle this ground and looks a good bet.

5:05: York - Makanah 4/1.

Simon Crisford does very well with his two-year-olds first time out and whilst this looks a very tricky race to solve, he should handle the ground being by Mayson and therefore should also be pretty forward.

5:35: York - Gaelic Tiger 13/2 Each Way and Silva Eclipse 12/1 Each Way.

Gaelic Tiger should appreciate this step up in trip with his breeding giving optimism for that. Second on both his starts this year, the ground should be ok for him and he has a good chance here.

Jedd O'Keefe's Silva Eclipse won three consecutive starts last term and whilst he ran no sort of race at Newcastle in March on the All-Weather, he wasn't fancied that day and with the ground probably in his favour given his breeding and the horses he is related to, he has a live chance in this event.
