Jay Rodriguez could be set for a shock return to Burnley in January as Sean Dyche looks to add some firepower to his low-scoring side.

Dyche's men are only a point clear of the relegation zone and have only managed to find the back of the net 12 times in as many games.

Rodriguez started his career at his home town club Burnley, where he spent five years between 2007 and 2012.

The 29-year-old scored 43 goals for the Clarets in all competitions before moving to Southampton for £7million.

The striker earned an England cap while at the Saints, where he spent another five years, before moving to West Brom for around £12million last season, where he suffered relegation with the Baggies.

The West Brom forward was reportedly close to a move back in the summer, but the bookies now make it just a 4/5 shot he makes Turf Moor his next port of call.

However, Darren Moore might not be willing to sell such an important figure halfway through the season as they fight for their place back in the Premier League

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Burnley could do with some added firepower up top this season and the latest betting suggests that'll come in January in the form of a familiar face."
