Danny Archer's Day Three Selections For Doncaster's St Leger Festival

Our man Danny Archer keeps smashing in winners at Doncaster this week and is back for more on Friday for Day Three of the St Leger Festival.

We have made a fine start to the William Hill St Leger Festival as we landed winners at 7/2, 7/2 and 5/1 on Wednesday and 7/2 and an Even money NAP yesterday; top form.

Today's card at Town Moor sees Group action take centre stage courtesy of the G3 Sceptre, G2 Flying Childers Stakes and G2 Doncaster Cup. Here are Danny Archer's race-by-race selections for day three of the meeting on Town Moor.

I'll be placing my bets with Ladbrokes today to take advantage of their bet £5 and get £20 in free bets. The Magic Sign will also double your winnings in the 1.50 if your selections wins by 3 lengths or more. Full terms here,

1:20: Doncaster: Aqabah 3/1 and Zofalee 14/1 Each Way.

Charlie Appleby's Aqabah was fifth in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot in June and then finished down the field in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket in July. He probably just about sets the standard based on that form. Tom Dascombe's Zofalee has plenty to find following a victory of a novice stakes event at Chester last time but he represents connections who do very well with their juveniles.

1:50: Doncaster: Talaayeb 10/3 and Tomyris 11/2 Each Way.

Owen Burrows' Talaayeb was fourth in the 1000 Guineas and bounced back to form with an impressive victory at York last time where she travelled into the race powerfully before putting the race to bed impressively. Roger Varian's Tomyris won her first two starts this season and was third on soft ground in a Goodwood G3 last time. That is solid form and she remains open to further improvement.

Ladbrokes will double your winnings if your horse wins by three lengths or more under their 3 & Easy offer.

2:25: Doncaster: Havana Grey 11/8 Doncaster NAP. £20 Returns £47.50 with Ladbrokes

I'm a big fan of Karl Burke's charge who handles this ground and should cope with the drop back to five furlongs. Second to a stable companion in the G1 Prix Morny at Deauville in August, the two-year-old son of Havana Gold previously landed the G2 Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood and for me sets the standard on that form.

3:00: Doncaster: Time To Study 11/4.

I've followed Mark Johnston's charge carefully this summer and following a short break after finishing fifth to St Leger hope Stradivarius in the G2 Queen's Vase, the three-year-old son of Motivator was a fine third in heavy ground at Haydock last week. That was a decent performance and he kept on stoutly to the line which makes him of interest here.

3:35: Doncaster: Montaly 5/1 and Sheikhzayedroad 11/2 Each Way

Not the greatest renewal of the G2 Doncaster Cup but competitive nonetheless. Montaly has the recent form in the book having beaten most of his rivals at York last month. He should handle softer ground and he is in fine form at the moment. I'm a fan of David Simcock's Sheikhzayedroad who edged the verdict in this race last year and showed a return to form when fourth at York. He is unbeaten at this track and whilst the ground is a slight issue, he looks decent each way value.

4:05: Doncaster: Ghaiyyath Evs and Ace Ventura 7/1 Each Way.

Charlie Appleby's Ghaiyyath cost 1.1 million euros and represents top connections. A son of Dubawi, he is a half brother to G1 winner Zhukova and he has to be respected. Roger Varian's Ace Ventura is a son of Mayson, cost 88,000gns and is a half-brother to G3 winner Alessandro Volta. His horses usually improve for their first run but he looks an interesting each way proposition.

4:35: Doncaster: Mundatab 9/4 and Aventinus 6/1.

Mundatab looks very solid. Form figures of 112 at Doncaster highlight his liking for Town Moor and he deservedly got his head back in front at Haydock last time with a length and a half victory. He still makes plenty of appeal off his current mark. Hugo Palmer's Aventinus drops back to six furlongs here but that is not necessarily a negative despite his effectiveness at seven furlongs and whilst he will have to improve to land this prize, he looks capable of going close.

5:10: Doncaster: Pivoine 5/2 and Turning Gold 10/1 Each Way.

Sir Michael Stoute's Pivoine has to prove he can do the business on turf after two victories on the All Weather from six starts. His latest victory was decisive and he seemed suited by the step up in trip to an extended 11 furlongs there, which suggests there is more to come over this slightly longer trip. Sir Mark Prescott's Turning Gold readily won back-to-back events at Yarmouth in July before finishing well down the field in a handicap over a mile at Newmarket in July. On breeding, you would say this trip could stretch him but I'm quite interested in this lad who will handle the ground.
