Gamble responsible

The idea of the gambler as a persona has always been a notion with both extreme glamour and extreme despair. Everyone wants to experience the 'Tony Soprano collapsing in a hysterical fit after winning the debt of a third world country in Vegas' gold rush, but less so the 'degenerate gambler losing everything he owns, including the use of one arm, to Tony Soprano for failing to pay off his gambling debts'

In other words, gambling can be a lot of fun. But when the fun stops, stop.

Chasing your losses is never a good idea and on the flip side, quitting while you're ahead, which isn't the funnest suggestion in the world, is also the most sensible and, at the end of the day, allows you to enjoy your winnings however you like, no matter how debauched a manner that may end up being, rather than launching your laptop across the living room when yet another last minute desperation acca lets you down.

We all have that one flash bastard mate who constantly sends screenshots through of his bets that have earned him enough money to keep Adebayo Akinfenwa in Nando's for a year, but what we don't see is all their losing bets. These are often the bets that are the reason why the same lad who bragged about winning a grand two weeks ago now doesn't have enough quid coins to scrape together for a couple of pints after work on a weekday night.

Of course, winning a few hundred quid off a throwaway 15-fold is a feeling of euphoria akin to when someone comes back from the bar at the pub and tears open five bags of crisps for the table, but it's also a victory that is about as common as a good Ed Sheeran song, so don't come away from it believing you're some sort of psychic football coupon mystic. You're not. You're the same luckless sod as the rest of us.

Bet with your head. Not over it.
