Canadian Ice Hockey Player Criticised After Removing Silver Medal

The Canadian women's team lost on penalties to USA in the final, England knows how you feel although granted not in a final.

For most people winning a silver medal at the Olympics would be pretty good. However when you're aiming for gold it can feel like failure and that's clearly how Canadian ice hockey player Jocelyne Larocque felt today.

When it comes to a national sport it's supposed to be so because it's really popular in your country and generally you're supposed to be pretty good at it, it's why cycling is obviously England's national sport and always has been.

It's also whilst we're enjoying the Winter Olympics and we are quite handy at some of the sports on show it's hardly our area of expertise, we just don't have the conditions or facilities for it.

Canada on the other hand, they bloody love the ice. Especially if there's pucks, sticks and fighting involved then, in between the scuffles, they can play a bit of ice hockey.

Having won four golds in a row in the sport from 2002 to 2014 they'd have been expecting to win again but today lost to fierce 'local' rivals USA in the final on penalties. Of course that meant 'only' winning silver but that wasn't enough for Jocelyne Larocque as she removed her medal instantly:

And people aren't too happy with the disrespect the defenseman showed to her runners-up medal:

Some people were defending the 29 year old who won gold with her fellow countrymen four years ago in Sochi, thinking it was the kind of passion they like to see in their sports stars.

Where do you stand on it, should she have kept the medal or gone all Jose Mourinho and chucked it into the crowd?
