Remember when Michael van Gerwen threw seventeen (!!) perfect darts...?

The Dutch darting hero nearly carved himself into Professional Darts Corporation history back in 2012 by throwing back-to-back nine-darters.

Though the two-time World champion did execute seventeen perfect darts in one of the most extraordinary moments in 'arras history, that is still talked about in hushed tones today.

The stage was the semi-finals of the PDC 2013 World Darts Championship against James Wade. And van Gerwen stepped up to the oche slamming home a delightful nine-dart finish.

Then, he very nearly did it again.

After producing seventeen perfect darts, van Gerwen narrowly missed out on double 12.

Relive one of the greatest moments in the sports history below:

What a moment. So, so close to a double nine-dart finish - those pesky double 12's!

Despite his brilliance, fellow two-time PDC World Champion Gary Anderson believes people are no longer 'scared of him'.

"Michael is still the best, he's still number one but people are not scared of him," Anderson said via Darts News.

Anderson added: "I love playing Michael, he plays my kind of game, my rhythm, and if I'm on my game he knows what he's going to get.

"But it'll be a bit of a culture shock to him, I don't think he's going to get his own way.

"Blackpool had been a nightmare stage for me, it's not one of my favourite tournaments but it was great.

"I think the best game I played was against young Jeffrey [De Zwaan] - I thought he was brilliant the whole tournament.

"Before the Mensur game I'd been up since 2 o'clock in the morning and had 45 minute's sleep so I was absolutely shattered but managed to nick it at the end."

'MVG', anyway, will be back in action for the 2018 Dutch Darts Championship.
