The McLaren Honda Andretti team have revealed the livery for their joint assault on the Indy 500 later in the month with Fernando Alonso's car revealed as he prepares for his first test.

Eight times McLaren have won the Formula One constructors championship, 12 times one of their drivers has won the drivers title, only Ferrari have more driver wins with 15.

However the British team haven't won the constructors title since 1998 and this season they are further away from it than they've ever been.

Problems with their Honda engine has seen them drop to the back of the field and two time world champion Fernando Alonso barely sounds like he wants to be in the car.

Fortunately for the Spaniard he won't have to be for the Monaco Grand Prix as he'll be in America instead to compete in the Indy 500 and today his car was revealed ahead of its first test:

Johnny Rutherford twice won the race in the 70s for McLaren and just like their F1 car this season they've gone back to the orange livery that Rutherford raced in.

At Monaco, probably the most prestigious race of the F1 season, Jenson Button will come out of retirement to temporarily take Alonso's seat.

The former Brawn F1 driver sent his friend a good luck message on Twitter:

Having already won at Monaco twice Alonso could aim for the triple crown of Monaco, Indy 500 and Le Mans should he be victorious in America.

It's unlikely things will go as badly as on the F1 track.
